last night (5/29/10) Main Street Radical (James and Matt) attended the rally to support Arizona’s SB1070 bill held at Diablo Stadium in Tempe, AZ. While at the the event we ran into Alfonzo Rachel ‘ZO’. He caught up to us later and asked us (among others) to do a bit about the bill for PJ TV.
After that somehow Zo ended up onstage speaking impromptu. The attached video is pretty poor but the audio is alright.

, take a good look at the numbers that are coming in: One source, PJTV.com is tracking the verified numbers of about 25% of the Tea parties. Those numbers currently, after 24 hrs, stand at 400,000 people…

I've been stalking ZO for over a year now, and I LOVE him. He knows how to deliver! He speaks from his heart and the heart and conscience of every true American!

Dyann, It was very cool running into Alfonzo. As you said he speaks from the heart and therefore is always on message.

Here’s a few more things I’ve heard: Illegals are all on welfare – not true, you must prove you are a citizen to apply for welfare. Illegals are collecting Social Security – not true, you need a SS# to collect Social Security. Illegals are overrunning the hospitals to get free healthcare – I’ve been to VVMC ER many times, which is only six hours from the border, and it’s usually deserted. Maybe down near Aho this is a problem? I don’t know. Illegals are crowding our schools, they don’t speak English and they are slowing our children down. I’ve got three children (all honor roll students) in 3 different schools and if this is a problem, I’ve never heard of it from them.

Jack, thank you for commenting. There is a lot of misinformation on both sides of the debate. I can tell you that Arizona, aside from being the kidnapping capital of the US, also leads the country in stolen identities. I have worked with illegals (all of them good people); I have had friends who were illegal. There is assistance out there if they know how to work the system. And there are plenty of community groups like ACORN to help them work the system. To your point: illegal immigrants are not comming across the border for free assistance. Most are here to work an honest job.
However, the biggest change in AZ in the past 20 years is the monitization of the illegal trade. When I was a kid we saw a few illegals walking through the desert. Today that traffic has become a business. It is effiecent and in excess of $1 billion a year in AZ in 2007. That business is dirty; it involves rape, murder, kidnapping, and extortion. These crimes are not committed against American citizens; they are committed against the illegal immigrants trying to get to America, and they have no recourse. The inhumanity of coyotes is enough of a reason to shut it down. But the fact that we have borders and laws that are ignored and uncontrolled is even worse. I would like to sleep with my door unlocked at night, but I don’t; that door is my border. We need borders as individuals, we need borders as communities, we need borders as nations.
