Is Intellectual Honesty Too Much to Ask for from the President and Speaker of the House?

On September 7th, 10,000 people showed up to a Tea Party in Illinois, part of the Tea Party Express tour as it makes it way to Washington, DC for a 9/12 rally. Media coverage of daily Tea Party protests have been virtually nonexistent as has honest coverage of health care town halls. Rather than answer questions honestly as to what is in the healthcare bill, we get deflections and accusations. I would still like to hear a good case for this healthcare bill other than “we need it” or “healthcare can’t wait.” Just tell us what is in the bill (or would that require that congress read the bill?).

In fact, instead of getting the message out on the contents of the bill and arguing substance, below are some comments from Barack Obama’s Organize for America propaganda campaign.

We don’t know what they’ll do next. What we do know is that we’ll have to be prepared for anything — ready to set the record straight, ready to make sure the media and Congress see the overwhelming support for reform, and ready to pass real reform this year.

But we’ll need the resources to do it — to pay for rapid-response ads in key districts and states, organizers to put together large rallies and grassroots events throughout the country, and the best technology available to empower volunteers — all at a moment’s notice. — Barack Obama, Organize for America

It is interesting that the above call for donations to pay for grassroots efforts, comes from the same people who accuse the other side of creating a false opposition.  Below are some comments from Ms. Pelosi as she characterizes all protesters as racists and “Astroturf.” Enjoy the hypocrisy from one of our most powerful leaders.

So here is what Ms. Pelosi and Barack Obama consider an organic outpouring of public support for the healthcare bill.  Of course, it is so organic and spontaneous that they bus in union support and pay for professional protestors with slick pre-printed signs.

And here is an example of what the President and Speaker dismiss as a group of ”Racisits” attending an ”Astroturf” protest paid for by big business and financed by the “wealthy”. The wealthy must be really cheap with their printing budget.

I looked for the “racists” carrying swastikas into town hall meetings. According to Ms. Pelosi these people are so prevalent that they discredit the entire opposition to her healthcare bill. I did not find any photos, but did see references to people at a town hall in Denver with a sign that said “Say no to fascism” and had a swastika that was crossed out, as well as some posters with Obama sporting a Hitler mustache. I did, however, come across dozens of Bush = Hitler swastika signs that I do not believe Ms. Pelosi has yet condemned. Thank you, Madam Speaker, for the intellectual honesty that you bring to the debate.
