Can We All Agree that the Constitution is a Good Thing?

Posted on 08. Sep, 2009 by James Devere in American Politics

Here is a bill that the Tea Party crowd can get behind.  Below is a quick description of House Bill 450 and Senate Bill 1319, which is stuck in a subcommittee under our current Congressional leadership.  This bill forces Congress to vote for or against the Constitution of the United States.  It does not add to the budget.  It simply requires that Congress disclose the specific powers under which the Constitution grants them the authority to pass each bill.

We are facing a time when Congress and the Administration are taking the Constitution for granted, infringing upon our rights and expanding the government beyond anything conceived of by the Founding Fathers.  Let’s have a vote on the Constitution, and at least we can see which members of Congress support our founding document and which are against it.

If your Congressperson is not listed below, call them to suggest they join in as a co-sponsor of this bill.  Otherwise have them explain why the Constitution is not important.

Enumerated Powers Act – Requires each Act of Congress to contain a concise and definite statement of the constitutional authority relied upon for the enactment of each portion of that Act. Declares that failure to comply with this requirement shall give rise to a point of order in either chamber of Congress.
