He asked me on 4/15 - "Dad, what are these protesters so upset about?". I replied that many are upset because they feel the government is not using our money wisely. In fact, they have spent all the money that they have, and now have borrowed from anyone who will lend to them (via 30 yr treasuries). They are continuing to spend this money, and will tax citizens to pay it all back in about 30 years. The wheels turned in my 8 year old's head - he did the math. He quickly realized that when the bill for this current round of largesse comes due, he will be deep into his earning years, and I and much of the current political big spenders will be seeking out rocking chairs upon which to enjoy our golden years. His insightful response: "Wait - you mean the President is spending my money to buy grownups stuff that they can't afford ..... and I have to pay for it?!?!?" I replied : "Sadly, yes" He is now officially outraged. He has promised to ride his bike to the next Tea Party. My 8 year old is officially outraged. Clearly evident! I couldn't have said any of it better myself!! I, too, a PISSED about how they are messing everything up not only for ourselves, but for our kids and their kids!
